What is a Freedom Celebration?

Several times a year, Lafayette House hosts a Freedom Celebration. A Freedom Celebration is a time for staff, current and past clients, to get together to celebrate the clients who have graduated from our programs. Each celebration is unique; however, food, fun, activities, and client testimonies are always involved. Some examples of previous celebrations include a Halloween-themed party, a picnic in the park, a talent show, and more. Each Freedom Celebration is a time to celebrate freedom from abuse, violence, addiction, and substances.

How Do They Impact Clients?

Freedom Celebrations are meant to empower clients by allowing them to share and listen to testimony. Clients can be inspired by others, but also by sharing how far they have come. Celebrating a client’s journey can empower them to continue to fight for what was unimaginable weeks or months prior. For some clients, this is being sober, maintaining a job, or building a support system. For others, it is escaping an abuser, obtaining safe, stable housing, or purchasing a car. While each client comes in with their own story, needs, and goals, Freedom Celebrations allow them to celebrate their successes and empower their futures.

How Do They Impact Staff?

Freedom Celebrations not only make a positive impact on our clients, but also on our staff. These celebrations are also a time for staff to celebrate the accomplishments of clients. It is a time for staff to be reminded of why they do the work that they do: to empower others and save lives. Staff are able to bring those stories with them to encourage them to keep going on emotionally or physically taxing days. At Lafayette House, our jobs can be tough, but extremely rewarding, and Freedom Celebrations remind us of that.
